Laick Design recently completed the re-design for the Cornerstone Genealogical Society located in Waynesburg, PA. The Cornerstone Genealogical Society needed a new web presence to replace their old site which was not mobile compatible and was difficult to update.

Our solution was a complete re-design with a very graphical friendly layout and easy navigation. However while working on this site and the COVID-19 pandemic affecting traffic into the venue we chose to go a different route with the site.

With Cornerstone Genealogical Society having members throughout the country, we proposed doing a website that offers the same resources as the old site but adding additional functionality to the site such as an online store, paying for your membership online, the ability to accept donations and a membership portal.

The largest item to implement was a membership portal. This membership portal is available to members only and offers a wealth of information dating back to the early 1800’s. Any member who has a membership whether purchased online or via mail can access this information from their device at their convenience. The number of items in the portal are immense with tax records, marriage certificates, death records, Civil War service records, every Greene County and even some Fayette County yearbooks from the 1900’s onward and much more.

Having the member portal as the main draw for the new website, the Cornerstone Genealogical Society now has the ability for members who are out of state or even those down the street to access the same content anytime they wish.

As with any non-profit, donations are a key to success. With that said, we have integrated a PayPal donation page that will allow a user to donation a sum of their choosing to the organization. Users can also support the organization via an online store which sells books, CD’s, and other related Greene County merchandise.

The hope with these new implementations is that membership can increase across the nation but it also allows members who are unable to visit the library to access the content for a small yearly fee.
