Stage Screen Designs for the Historic Penn Theater

At Laick Design, we love projects that blend design, atmosphere, and audience experience. One of our favorite ongoing collaborations has been with the historic Penn Theater in Butler, Pennsylvania, where we have been designing the large-format stage screen visuals used for concerts, showcases, and special events.

These designs transform the theater stage into an immersive visual environment that enhances each performance.

Bringing the Stage to Life

The Penn Theater regularly hosts live music events, including songwriter showcases and acoustic performances. For these shows, a large projection screen fills the back of the stage, serving as a dynamic visual backdrop.

Our role is to design custom stage graphics that:

  • Set the tone for the event

  • Highlight performers and featured artists

  • Complement the lighting and stage setup

  • Provide clear event branding for audiences

The result is a visually engaging backdrop that helps create a professional concert atmosphere while reinforcing the Penn Theater’s brand.

Singer & Songwriters Showcase Design

One recent example is the Singer & Songwriters Showcase, where we created a bold stage visual featuring the performing artists. The design blends strong typography, artist imagery, and atmospheric color grading to create a cohesive and impactful backdrop.

Key elements of the design include:

  • Large, legible typography so event titles are visible throughout the theater

  • Artist imagery integrated into the background to highlight the performers

  • High-contrast color treatment that works well with stage lighting

  • Balanced layout that keeps the stage visually clean while still promoting the artists

When projected across the full width of the stage, the graphic helps anchor the performance visually and creates a memorable experience for the audience.

Designed for the Stage Environment

Stage screen graphics require a different design approach than traditional print or web graphics. Our designs consider:

  • Projection brightness and contrast

  • Stage lighting conditions

  • Viewing distance from the audience

  • Screen proportions and resolution

Every element—from text size to image placement—is carefully planned so the design works perfectly in a large theater environment.
